Biography
Uliana Alexyuk | Lyric Soprano
Ukrainian lyric soprano Uliana Alexyuk has established herself as a versatile and compelling international artist, celebrated for her vocal agility, technical precision, and profound dramatic sensitivity.
Alexyuk’s professional foundation was built within the prestigious Opera Studio of Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre (2009–2011). Her early career was marked by a series of notable debuts, including the First Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte. She further demonstrated her stylistic breadth as Frasquita in Bizet’s Carmen, Marfa in Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Tsar's Bride, and the triple role of Princess, Fire, and Nightingale in Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortilèges. Her tenure at the Bolshoi also included acclaimed performances as Adele in Die Fledermaus, Amina in Bellini’s La Sonnambula (dir. Pier Luigi Pizzi), and the role of Ludmilla in Glinka’s Ruslan and Ludmilla, directed by Dmitri Tcherniakov and conducted by Vladimir Jurowski.
Her U.S. debut followed in 2013/14 as a member of the Houston Grand Opera Studio, where she performed Gilda in Rigoletto, Mrs. Nordstrom in Sondheim’s A Little Night Music, and Ivette in Weinberg’s The Passenger. The latter production toured to the Lincoln Center Festival in New York (2014) and the Chicago Lyric Opera (2015). A career milestone was reached at the Glyndebourne Festival, where her portrayal of Zerbinetta in Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos—conducted by Vladimir Jurowski—earned her the prestigious John Christie Prize. She has also performed Anja in the world premiere of Philippe Fénélon’s Kirschgarten at the Paris Opera, and Nadia in Fabio Vacchi’s Lo stesso Mare in Bari.
Since 2014, Uliana has been a cornerstone of the ensemble at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe. Her expansive repertoire there ranges from Mozartian heroines like Pamina, Servilia, and Celia, to Bel Canto leads such as Adina, Giulietta, and Norina. She has garnered particular acclaim for her portrayals of Musetta, Gretel, the Vixen, and most recently, her role debut as Violetta in La Traviata.
Her recent work includes a successful house debut at the Zürich Opera as Woglinde in Das Rheingold (cond. Gianandrea Noseda), a role she reprised for Götterdämmerung in the 2023/24 season. Both of these performances as part of Opernhaus Zürich’s The Ring cycle are available for streaming on Mezzo. An active concert artist, she recently performed Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI in Turin and appears frequently in recital and concert programs with the Badisches Staatskapelle.
