Marco Caria, born in Sardinia, is an Italian baritone, acclaimed on the
international opera scene for his distinctive voice. After studying at the
Conservatory of Sassari, he furthered his training at the Accademia
Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and at CUBEC – Accademia del Belcanto in
Modena, under the guidance of Mirella Freni. Winner of numerous
international competitions, in 2007 he was awarded Third Prize and the
Audience Prize at the Operalia competition in Paris.
His career has taken him to the stages of major international opera houses
and festivals, including the Wiener Staatsoper, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma,
Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Teatro Regio di Parma, Teatro Colón in
Buenos Aires, Macerata Opera Festival, Cincinnati Opera and the Barbican
Centre in London. He has worked with conductors such as Riccardo Muti,
Myung-Whun Chung, Valery Gergiev, Michele Mariotti and Nello Santi, as
well as with stage directors including Luca Ronconi and Damiano
Michieletto.
His repertoire includes leading roles from the Verdi, verismo and bel canto
traditions, including Rigoletto, Renato, Rodrigo, Germont, Count di Luna,
Amonasro, Scarpia, Tonio, Marcello and Figaro. His most recent role debuts
include Jago in Otello, Barnaba in La Gioconda and Scarpia in Tosca.
His most recent and current engagements include Amonasro in Aida in
Hong Kong and Lima, Count di Luna in Il trovatore in Lima, Tonio in
Pagliacci at Teatro Regio di Torino, and Posa in Don Carlo in Sassari. In 2026,
he will also return to the role of Scarpia in Tosca at the Festival Oper im
Steinbruch in St. Margarethen, further confirming his particular focus on the
great roles of the Verdi and Puccini repertoire.
